Gmail Lockout

Spencer Dec 28, 2011 09:10AM PST

I *love* Mingly. It does what I want and isn't bloated like many of the other options out there.

I've noticed that since installing Mingly, I've had my gmail account temporarily locked down a number of times. I am using Chrome with a few extensions (ghostery, adblock, etc) but do not have anything running on gmail (i.e. no other extensions/greasemonkey scripts).

Is this something you've heard from other users?

Thanks,

Spencer

Below is the text I receive from gmail:

To keep our systems healthy, Google has temporarily disabled your account. This primarily occurs when we detect unusually high levels of activity on your account. In most cases, it should take one hour to regain access. In rare cases, it can take up to 24 hours for access to be reinstated.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Here are some reasons why this could have happened:

Receiving, deleting, or downloading large amounts of mail via POP or IMAP in a short period of time.
Sending a large number of messages to many people.
Being logged into or synchronizing Gmail on many computers, clients, or mobile devices.
Browser-related issues. If you find your browser continually reloading while attempting to access your Inbox, it’s probably a browser issue, and it may be necessary to clear your browser’s cache and cookies.
Providing access to file-sharing, file-storage software, email analytics services, browser extensions, or third party software that automatically logs in to your Gmail account.

This happened to me too, and to my colleague @lennysan.
Mingly seems to be the common denominator.

Can Mingly offer some explanation for this/assurances that it won't happen again. I like Mingly but I do not want to risk losing Gmail access - it's the nexus of my digital life!

Thanks

I had the same exact problem, and though I can't prove I have a suspicion Mingly was responsible. I've disabled Mingly until I learn more.

Ditto. I have had the same problem. I was locked out for an hour after installing Mingly. Great app.. but don't like the problems.

This afternoon after using Mingly for the morning, I can't get Mingly up and running again. There is a sign-in to Mingly button, but when I click it, my gmail tab refreshes and the sign-in to Mingly button flashes red. I'm unable to sign back in.

Hi All,

Please update your Mingly extension to get the fix for this bug (instructions below).

A Gmail update over the weekend caused an unexpected error in Mingly. We’ve worked around the clock to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and apologize for the interruptions. To prevent more users from getting the bug, we also disabled the "Sign in to Mingly" link. That will be re-enabled shortly.

Updating Mingly for Gmail:
Your extension should automatically update daily when you restart your browser, but please manually update now to get the most current version.
In Chrome: Click the wrench at the top right of the browser --> Tools --> Extensions --> Make sure “Developer Mode” is checked at the top right and click “Update Extensions Now” --> Reload Gmail.
In Firefox: Tools --> Add-ons --> Extensions tab --> Click the gear at the top and “Check for Updates” --> Restart Firefox

Thanks - again, really sorry about this...
